The purpose of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists is to assist members with their family history and genealogical research by:

• actively providing opportunities for the development of genealogical skills and studies;
• representing the interests of the members in the wider community; and,
• promoting the preservation of information

There are many branches that meet regularly and Local Area Contacts around New Zealand.

There are a number of Interest Groups for regions around the world and for special subjects (genealogical computing).

The Family Research Centre is open to members.

All members who have email can participate in a Members Mailing List to discuss issues about their society.

All members receive a bi-monthly Magazine with a wide range of articles for beginners and experts.

The newsletter Keeping in Touch is sent to all society branches, interest groups, officers and contact persons. All members can view it online.
