NZSG Irish Interest Group (IIG)
About Us
As our name suggests, we are a group of family historians (genealogists) with a common interest in researching our Irish ancestry.  We are not professional genealogists and we do not undertake paid research.  Nor will we trace your family history for you.

We see our role as an educational one.  Our aim is to empower people by providing the necessary knowledge and tools for them to further their own research.  We firmly believe in that old adage "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.  Teach a man to fish, feed him for life."  We do our best to inform and explain the many resources available to the Irish researcher; how best to access and utilise those resources.  We will also help you plan a research strategy that is tailored to your individual needs and requirements.

Whether you are a complete novice to genealogy or an experienced researcher, we believe we have something to offer and interest you.  We acknowledge that everyone has their own research style and pace - some like to be left alone to browse resources on display, others like a helping hand and some guidance.  Whatever your style, you are most welcome to join us at any of our events.

What, When, Where
We run a variety of events and activities throughout the year in response to the wants and needs of our membership. Typically, we hold a workshop, seminar or meeting five times a year on the second Sunday of March, May, July, September and November.  These events are held from 1-4pm at the NZSG Family Research Centre, 1st floor, 159 Queens Road, Panmure, Auckland.  Note:  At some events, the number of attendees is restricted so that participants derive the greatest benefit from the available resources.

Notice of all our events is communicated via our FREE email newsletter (see below) and the Coming Events calendar on this website.

Publications
The IIG has produced a number of practical “how to” research guides crammed full of information, describing various Irish records and indicating where they can be ordered on microfilm to any LDS authorised agency (e.g. LDS Family History Centres, NZSG Family Research Centre, Auckland City Library, National Library).  Websites and film numbers are included where possible.

FREE Email subscription newsletter
Send an email request to Irish asking to be added to our mailing list and we will send you all the latest Irish Interest Group news, directly to your ‘inbox’.  Like all organisations within New Zealand we are bound by the Privacy Act 1993 and we undertake not to release any of your personal details to any third party (except as required by law) without your express consent.

Costs
There is no joining or membership fee to belong to the Irish Interest Group.  Educational workshops and seminars incur a course fee.  These fees vary according to the course content and the resources provided and are outlined clearly in all publicity and promotional material.
