Search the Library Catalogue There are several search methods: Fast Find – use any word or group of words to search by title, subject, author or keywords Advanced Search – A wider range of fields to search by. You can also conduct ‘or’ searches eg all items by author ‘Taylor’ or publisher ‘Taylor’. Visual Search – Click on a country icon down the left hand side, and then click on a topic icon on the right hand side. This will display a list of records that pertain to that subject code. New Items – Will display a list of records of new items entered in the last 30 days

What the catalogue will tell you The catalogue has multiple fields that will give you information about a record. Besides the usual fields of title, author & publisher, the catalogue will also list: Edition | Will indicate if it’s a 1st edition or revised edition | Publication year | This is the year of publication of that edition. Note: the item in question may have been originally published much earlier than the edition we have catalogued. If the original publication date is know it will be included in the notes field. | Type | Will indicate what type of item it is e.g. book (borrowable), book (reference), CD, Microfiche, etc | Indexed | Will indicate if the tem is indexed or not | Illustrator | The name of the illustrator | Series | Will list the series name. Useful if you liked the book in a series and want to search others in the same series. Eg. The King’s England series | Classification | Resources are classified geographically first by country, then by county/province, (using the world codes listed) and finally by subject, (using the subject codes listed below). E.g. ENG.SRY.PROB is a book relating to Surrey England, and it is a probate record NZ.CBY.LH is a book relating to Canterbury NZ and it is a local history
| Subjects | These are full & specific subject codes i.e. England-Cornwall-Surnames | Keywords | These are individual keywords e.g. England | Notes | This field will have extra information about the item | Reviews | This will show reviews written by members and allows members to write reviews | Contents | This will list the contents page of books (if entered into the catalogue) | Other | The ‘other’ tab will show physical information about the items : No of pages, sizes, Cover type and binding type. |
