Manuscript Collection temporary relocation
From early 2010, Archives New Zealand's Wellington repository will temporarily house the majority of the Alexander Turnbull Library's manuscript collection.

"Archives New Zealand is opening its doors to the National Library of New Zealand's important Turnbull Collection during the library's upcoming critical redevelopment work.

In a joint announcement, Archives New Zealand's Acting Chief Executive Greg Goulding and the National Library Chief Executive Penny Carnaby, said the project demonstrated the strong working relationship between the two organisations.  The arrangement represented practical kiwi collaboration by ensuring the collections would remain available to customers.

Almost 10 kilometres of shelving has been purpose-built to accommodate the collection at the Wellington office.  Staff from both organisations will be working together to provide joint services to customers while the collection is housed at Archives New Zealand."

Archives New Zealand and the National Library of New Zealand expect timelines and details of the relocation to be confirmed shortly.
