Any NZSG member coming to the Family Research Centre during Family History Month can enter free of charge.

Late Late Research Night

Friday 30 August from 4pm to midnight. Cost including dinner $25.00. Volunteers will be on duty to assist you.

Palmerston North Branch - Find Your Family in Old Newspapers

Throughout August Family History Month the NZSG Palmerston North Branch invite you to come and see our friendly volunteers in the Palmerston North City Library, 2nd floor:

Wednesdays 10.30am - 1.30pm
Fridays 10.30am - 1.30pm
Saturdays 1pm - 4pm

They will help you use Papers Past - a free website with digitised NZ and Pacific newspapers from the 19th and 20th centuries.

Mosgiel Branch

From 19 to 23 August the Genealogy Room will be open at the Mosgiel Public Library from 11am to 1pm and a Mosgiel NZSG member will be in attendance to help.

Saturday 17 August at 10.30am at the Mosgiel Methodist Church Hall in Wickliffe Street, Mosgiel, we are having Raymon Naisbitt from FamilySearch, Utah, USA, speaking. The subject is Tips for Family History Research. Learn tips for doing English research including: English jurisdictions, the “big 4” English record types, and online databases to find your English ancestors. Also if there is time there will be a Q and A session.

Otaki Branch

Family History Month Exhibition in Ōtaki Tuku Iho from 1 August to 5 September is a display of personal heirlooms and objects that keep family histories and memories alive put on by the NZSG Otaki Branch and the local library.

Each of the exhibits has a personal story about the significance of the item attached to it. They include carvings, religious items, clothing, jewellery and photographs, all honouring the connections of the current owners with the past.

Members of the NZSG Otaki Branch are on duty to allow visitors to the exhibition to come along and talk to them, or help them in their attempts to find out more about their family history.

Family History Month at Western Bay of Plenty Libraries

Katikati Library

  • Special display featuring the Morton family.
  • In partnership with Katikati Genealogy Group, we will be offering free tuition on family history research skills using and on Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout August.
  • We have a free giveaway of a family history starter kit available at the library from 1 August.

Te Puke Library

  • Special display featuring the Vercoe family.
  • In partnership with the NZSG Te Puke Branch, there will be an Open Day on Thursday 22 August when the genealogists will be on hand to help the public with their family research.

2019 Auckland Family History Expo 9 - 11 August 2019

Auckland Libraries and the NZSG Genealogical Computing Group presented a weekend-long event covering a wide range of topics on researching genealogy, whakapapa and family history. This event was very well attended.
